UPDATE 5/28/20

We started this campaign with a goal of $6,000 to bring immediate relief to our most vulnerable Center City PCS families. We’re amazed at the outpouring of support and exceeded our goal in just 48 HOURS! We can not thank our friends and community supporters enough.

To ensure even more resources to our families in need, we’ve increased our goal to $15,000. Every dollar goes to families across our network that are currently experiencing severe financial strain due to COVID-19.

At Center City Public Charter Schools, we have a very unique opportunity to help ease some of the burden impacting our families during these uncertain times. Because we serve students from across all four quadrants of the nation’s capital, we have encountered varying degrees of financial hardship, social and emotional trauma, appropriate access to food, toiletries, and in some cases, rent and utilities have become an overwhelming hardship.

Many of our families consist of parents who are essential workers who were already combatting pre-existing challenges. An even larger population of our families are now faced with balancing new financial constraints, childcare, and self-care. For those that are no longer employed, due to layoffs and closures, economic destitutions supersede their ability to keep their students connected to the academic goals that are no longer a priority.

Although our school is currently closed to prevent the spread of COVID-19, school leaders have reached out to each of our families to identify their needs and connect them with as many existing resources as possible.  While we cannot physically wrap our hands around some of our students who are trapped between the walls of domestic violence and caring for younger siblings with minimal adult supervision, we would like to remind them that we are here and that we care.

Center City PCS has established the COVID-19 Family Relief Fund to provide direct support to as many of our families as possible.  Our goal is to raise $6,000 by June 19 and your gift will provide each of our families in need with a $40 gift card as a small gesture of support for those experiencing severe economic hardship during COVID-19 in the most vulnerable communities that we serve.

Our school community is strong, compassionate, and built on the premise of committing to the intellectual, physical, moral, and emotional well-being of each scholar.  We encourage our stakeholders and friends to share in our efforts to model how we can count on our community to get through this public health crisis together, in Character, Excellence, and Service, as one Center City.

Yours in gratitude,
