The Makerspace at Center City PCS provides curiosity-driven learning experiences that will have a lasting impact on our students. Through maker-centered learning, we connect personal passion with career and entrepreneurship opportunities, empowering the next generation of innovators and creators.

The Makerspace at Center City PCS is a state-of-the-art, 20,000 square foot, high-tech facility that will revolutionize the educational landscape for the 1,400 Center City PCS students in Washington, DC. More than just a physical structure, The Makerspace represents a transformative approach to education that fosters creativity, critical thinking, and hands-on learning.

A place where students like Jayla will be supported in their love for learning and drive to make the world a better place, The Makerspace will have a specific focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM) skills.

STEAM fields and careers are key drivers of the U.S. and global economy, offering clear pathways to promote and facilitate equitable outcomes for students of color.

Labs at The MakerSpace

There are six dedicated labs at The Makerspace, where students can dive into hands-on projects and collaborate with peers to invent, create and iterate with the guidance and support of specialized lab coordinators.

A space for textile and fiber arts, sewing, printing, wearable tech, and fashion design.
BUILD Lab
BUILD Lab
A space for 3D design, art and engineering through woodworking tools, CNC router, laser cutters and ceramics.
SCIENCE Lab
SCIENCE Lab
A space for studying branches of science connected to making with an equipped lab and prep room.
MEDIA Lab
MEDIA Lab
A space for developing media literacy and critical thinking through audio/video production tools.
CODE Lab
CODE Lab
A space for developing tech literacy, and computational thinking through coding, physical computing and robotics.

The Makerspace at Center City PCS is a dynamic project that will positively impact K-12 instruction and learning for young people in Washington, D.C. This is a unique opportunity for the local community to collaborate, grow, and thrive together. Prior to our grand opening in Spring 2025, generous support from individuals, companies, and philanthropic partners is needed to help cover related programming and capital expenses.
